Our Director - Rick Phelps

So... who am I? I was born in Ann Arbor to a nurse and a physicist, and to this day, I'm the only artist in a family of scientists...! One by one, we came to faith in Christ. After a music-filled childhood, I earned my degree from CMU, scored my first job teaching elementary music and choir, and joined a community choir.

Then I met a lady. When she went to Africa, I went to seminary. We were married before my last year in Pennsylvania and moved to Cincinnati that I might master conducting. We then came full circle back to Mt. Pleasant where I took the reins of the school choirs, along with some band and orchestra classes. Eventually we landed in Holland, simultaneously enjoying a ten-year run as Music Director of the Kalamazoo Singers.

We spent part of twenty-plus summers at Interlochen where I did music and she edited all of the camp programs. In 2005 we bought three already assembled children from Putin's Russia, instantly became a family of five, and embarked on a new, crazier-than-ever roller-coaster adventure of life that we're still enjoying, now with three grandboys!
